New Yorkers are experiencing losses both big and small during the COVID-19 crisis. Literature – particularly books on mental health – can provide escape, comfort and help. “Reflections on Mental Health & Writing” is a panel discussion with authors who have written about mental health and mental illness, presented by Spaces to Thrive, a partnership between the Mayor’s Office of ThriveNYC and The New York Public Library.

The panel features Bassey Ikpi (author of I’m Telling the Truth, But I’m Lying), Mira T. Lee (author of Everything Here Is Beautiful), Kenneth Paul Rosenberg (author of Bedlam and director of the Sundance Film Festival and PBS-aired documentary Bedlam), Gretchen Rubin (author of The Happiness Project) and Stephanie Anderson, Assistant Director of Selection at BookOps at the New York Public Library. The panel is moderated by Susan Herman, Director of the Mayor’s Office of ThriveNYC.

Many New Yorkers are feeling anxious and sad right now, and as the COVID-19 crisis continues, the need for mental health support will only intensify. How can insurance providers promote mental health? How are they changing practices in response to the coronavirus outbreak?

“Innovations in Mental Healthcare Access during COVID-19″ is a conversation with leading insurance providers and public health experts about how they are reaching and serving New Yorkers in new ways.

The panel features Dr. Michael McRae, Assistant Commissioner, Bureau of Health Promotion for Justice-Impacted Populations (NYC Department of Health and Mental Hygiene); Mario Schlosser, CEO of Oscar; Karen Ignagni, President and CEO of EmblemHealth; and Marjorie A. Cadogan, Executive Deputy Commissioner of the Office of Citywide Insurance Access (HRA). The panel is moderated by Susan Herman, Director of the Mayor’s Office of ThriveNYC.
